In September 2025, a malignant tumor was found in my breast during a routine mammogram. I was set to have a lumpectomy, but during further testing, another tumor was found in another part of the breast, so the lumpectomy was changed to a mastectomy of the breast. I was fortunate to have Dr Stephanie Bernik from MT Sinai as my surgeon. A few weeks later, the surgery was done and thankfully the malignant breast was removed. I was fortunate that after testing under the care of Oncologist Dr Klein, I found out I did not need to undergo Chemo or radiation- just an estrogen inhibitor for many years to come.
A week after I returned home, I took a walk to Central Park(on my corner), and I forgot that the Breast Cancer Awareness walk was taking place. I remember going to one of the tables where a merchant was selling merchandise. I was very overwhelmed and I told them that i felt the participants were walking for me and I explained I just had breast surgery a week ago. I was very touched when she gave me a hug and a strength button! Now it is time to participate in this year's walk for myself and others.
Don't forget to go for your mammogram every year!
