On my birthday this year I'll be running the Chicago Marathon. It's something that I've dreamed of doing since I was a kid and would come downtown to watch my mom run it every year.
After losing my Aunt Gail to cancer last summer, I knew that I wanted to run for a cause that would honor her memory, and do something to help those dealing with the same battle she was.
When looking for charities , I came across Sharsheret and immediately knew that this would be the perfect cause to honor her memory.
My aunt was extremely involved in her Jewish community in Atlanta, and while I was in school at Emory, did everything she could to make sure that I felt included and always had a place to go for the Holiday's and Shabbat dinner. It was this same community that rallied around her and provided friendship, support and strength during her battle with cancer.
Sharseret offers this same support and so much more to countless women going through what my aunt did. Their organization provides much needed emotional support, mental health counseling, critical education, and financial subsidies to thousands of Jewish women and their families facing breast and ovarian cancer.
