My husband, Charles, is using his dream race, the TCS New York City Marathon, to fundraise for an organization that has helped me in ways I could never imagine: Sharesheret. Ever since I was diagnosed with breast cancer, Sharesheret has been at my side, providing counseling, putting me in touch with others, and surprising me with unexpected kindnesses, like a post-surgery pillow that cushions my chest against the seatbelt.
The TCS New York City Marathon is more than a race for both of us. My mother, Lila, was born and raised in New York City. Charles’s side of the family includes four generations of Rotbluts who have lived in the city. Plus, the course runs just blocks south of his dad's high school.
Charles already had an entry, so he reached out to Sharesheret and asked if he could fundraise for them. Sharesheret has been extraordinarily supportive of me in my fight against breast cancer. Running for them also honors my late mother, Lila, and Charles’s mother, Micheline. Both were/are breast cancer survivors.
Sharesheret is a national not-for-profit organization supporting women and families at high risk and those facing breast and ovarian cancer at every stage — before, during, and after diagnosis. It has provided me with counseling and resources, and surprised us with unexpected kindnesses, like a post-surgery pillow that cushioned my chest against the seatbelt.
We are asking you to support Charles in his athletic and fundraising efforts as he takes on this challenge and I fight back against my own cancer. All contributions are tax-deductible, and when you give, please ask your employer whether they will match your gift.
Thank you for your support!
“Good luck Charles and Marni!!”
