Dear Friends, Family, and Colleagues,
If you've spoken with me recently, you know that much of my life outside of work has been focused on one thing: helping my mom navigate her diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer.
Being a caregiver has taught me lessons I never expected to learn. I've learned how complicated cancer care can be. I've learned how much time is spent coordinating appointments, managing medications, tracking side effects, advocating for care, and making sense of an overwhelming amount of information. Most of all, I've learned what it means to live with uncertainty while trying to stay hopeful.
There are days that are frightening. There are days when the emotional burden feels heavy. And there are days when having the support of others makes all the difference.
This January, I will be running the Miami Marathon in honor of my mom and in support of Sharsheret, an organization whose mission resonates deeply with me. Sharsheret helps women and families facing breast and ovarian cancer by providing personalized support, educational resources, mental health services, peer connections, and guidance throughout the cancer journey.
Training for a marathon is challenging, but it pales in comparison to the strength and resilience that cancer patients and caregivers demonstrate every day.
