One of the greatest lessons I’ve ever learned came from an exchange that simply included a smile. My dear grandmother was suffering, she experienced much pain and anguish from cancer and she knew it was her time. As she was being wheeled out of our home and headed to the hospital for what would be the last time, she somehow had the composure, strength and love to lift her head towards my brothers and I and smile. During a time of pain, she worried about her grandchildren and made sure to smile for us, to divert our concerns.
That smile taught me what it means to do for others, to sacrifice and give to someone else and be there for them during difficult times. That simple gesture of a smile, taught me how to truly put others before oneself.
I’m privileged to partner with an organization that does all of those great things. I am extremely thankful to be an official member of Team Sharsheret for the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon.
Sharsheret is a national nonprofit organization supporting women and families, at high risk and those facing breast and ovarian cancer at every stage: before, during, and after diagnosis.
As a member of this incredible team, I have pledged to raise funds in support of Sharsheret's breast cancer and ovarian cancer programs and services. I am asking you to please support me as I run in memory of my dear grandmother and in honor of all the powerful women in my life: my wife, my mother, my mother-in-law, my sisters-in-law and my beautiful daughter.
With your encouragement, help and support, I promise to smile as I cross that finish line. Let’s go!
