The past year was a challenging one to say the least. As many of you know in May of 2022 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. What followed was a year of surgeries, chemo, going into anaphylactic shock, keeping my white blood cells up with by weekly injection and I even broke my finger to add to the chaos. It was a roller coaster for sure. Thankfully I got through active treatment in May of 2023 and am now in remission and post treatment.
I could not have done any of this without the support of so many of you in my communities. Having had cancer now twice before turning 50 this year I can say that it most definitely takes a village to get through cancer. Besides leaning into the support of my family, friends and already existing community I have found it extremely supportive to lean into tribes of other women going through or who have gone through a similar experiences. One of those communities was Sharsheret.
Sharasheret sent me a tons of written information, checked in with me regularly, provided regular webinars and workshops for me to attend during treatment and are still doing so as I move into survivorship. They have been an amazing support! So when they asked if I would run the NYC marathon to be on their team and raise funds for their cause I said "yes let's do it!"
Since high school I have been a runner and love running. I have run a number of marathons and half marathons here in California. The picture here was at the last LA half marathon that I ran in March 2022, just two months before my breast cancer diagnosis. Now, I am so excited to be getting ready to run my first half marathon in my birth state, New York, exactly 2 years later since my last half marathon.
