Hi,
I am Hillary - I am a Stage 3 breast cancer thriver, who is very grateful fro Sharsheret and Amy & Daryl for introducing me when I needed it most; and while this run holds many meanings for me, this half marathon is for and in honor of my younger cousin Julie.
Julie has already faced breast cancer, where early diagnosis mattered deeply. More recently, she has been thrust into an even harder fight, courageously battling AML, a form of leukemia. Her sister Beth survived ALL, also leukemia, as a child. Cancer has moved through our family in ways I wish no one ever had to experience.#COUSINSFIGHTCANCER
I am running to raise funds for Sharsheret, an organization that supported me and my family in ways I will never forget. During treatment, they sent chemo care packages for my then 2 and 4 year old, connected me with another mom going through the same experience, and reminded me we were not alone. Because of my own journey, I’ve also spoken to women about early detection, as my cancer appeared as an indent, not a lump.
I’m especially grateful to my dear friend Daryl, who guided me back here and reconnected me with my childhood friend Amy. Amy and Daryl are both running and invited me to join them, and their support made this feel possible.
Albeit late in the game, whether I walk or jog, I will finish this race to support those I love and those in need.
No amount is too small. Every pledge helps provide education, early-detection awareness, and meaningful support for individuals and families navigating cancer.
