Dear Friends and Family ,
I am excited to share with you that I am an official member of Team Sharsheret for the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon on March 19, 2023.
I am inspired to undertake this challenge, as I am doing it in support of Sharsheret, a national not-for-profit organization supporting women and families at high risk and those facing a breast and ovarian cancer diagnosis - before, during and after treatment.
I'm passionate about cancer genetics, research, drug development and treatment - - both professionally and personally. My strong family history of both breast and ovarian cancer includes my grandmother, aunts and cousin. Genetic testing in 2009 came up negative for BRCA1, and further testing in 2013 was also negative. However, with new advances in technology and testing, in 2020 they were able to identify a rare mutation in BRCA1 - - found in only 2 other families in the world! Although thankfully I personally do not carry this mutation, it is critical that our family now has a means to track this cancer-causing mutation. From a professional standpoint, my husband is an oncologist and has dedicated his career to treating patients with cancer, and my work has focused on discovering and developing new therapies for the treatment of cancer. It is particularly meaningful for me to race on behalf of Sharsheret because of the support they have provided to family and friends who were touched by breast and ovarian cancer.
As a member of the Sharsheret team, I have pledged to raise funds in support of Sharsheret's breast and ovarian cancer programs and services. I am asking you to please support me in my athletic and fundraising efforts as I take on this challenge. Please ask for corporate matching gifts too. All contributions are tax deductible.
