Dear Friends and Family,
I am so excited to share with you that I am an official member of Team Sharsheret for the 2023 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon.
I truly thought that I had retired my running shoes a few years ago (and my knees and shins have been very grateful ever since), so you may be wondering what made me want to lace up my sneakers and take on the challenge once again to run (or, more likely slowly jog) 13.1 miles . . . Well, January 29, 2023, marked the 10th Anniversary of my double mastectomy. It has been 10 years since I took that first step to take control of my health and live a cancer-free life. To mark and honor this milestone and celebrate my journey, I am choosing to push myself out of my comfort zone and pursue this challenge for Sharsheret, a national not-for-profit organization supporting women and families facing, or at high risk of, breast and ovarian cancer at every stage - before, during, and after diagnosis.
I find it particularly meaningful to run for Team Sharsheret because of the support they provided me, as well as so many friends who have been touched by breast and ovarian cancer. Sharsheret is the only organization that is able to provide the vital relevant support I, and so many others, have been seeking.
As a member of this incredible Team, I have pledged to raise funds (which I hope to exceed!) in support of Sharsheret's breast cancer and ovarian cancer programs and services.I am asking you to please support me in my athletic and fundraising efforts as I take on this challenge and celebrate this milestone.
