My name is Judah Mann and I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Last year, I lost my amazing Savti, Leah Mann, to cancer. My Savti received so much support from Sharsheret while she struggled with her illness. When it came time to figure out a bar mitzvah project, it felt like a "no brainer" for me to acknowledge this amazing organization and give back to them as much as I could. I love to watch and play all sports, especially basketball and hockey. I decided that one creative way to raise money for Sharsheret was to create a basketball and hockey tournament that will raise funds that will go directly to help women, like my Savti.
My friends and classmates will be invited to participate in this tournament on the day of my Bar-Mitzvah. Each player will be asked to donate a minimum of $18 in order to play in the games. Friends and family who will not be playing in the tournament are also encouraged to make donations to this page. No donation is too small and all of the donations will be so greatly appreciated.
In addition, for the entire month of October, in honor of breast cancer awareness month, I will be collecting items to include in special care packages that I will organize and deliver to local hospitals. These items will bring comfort to women facing breast and ovarian cancer treatment at a local hospital or cancer center and include critical Sharsheret resources. Some of the items we will be collecting are: body lotions, hand sanitizers, fuzzy socks, tissues, candles, activity books, adult coloring books, aromatherapy diffusers, reusable water bottles with straws, kosher mints, teas, stress balls and magazines. Please reach out to me and I will be happy to provide the complete list.
My Savti was caring, kind, loving and enthusiastic about so many things in life, especially sports. She played such a huge part in my life and her absence at my Bar Mitzvah will be felt by all of our family. By incorporating this special mitzvah project, in her honor, this will ensure that her memory and her legacy will always live on through me.
