In 2010, while I was deployed with the US Navy, I lost my grandmother — my Bobbee — to breast cancer.
She was thousands of miles away, but when I got that text, it hit like a freight train.
Growing up, home wasn’t always a happy place. But when she was around, everything felt different. Warm. Safe. Loving. She was the one person who made me feel like I mattered — like I was seen, special, cherished.
She told the best stories — wild, winding, hilarious tales we begged her to keep going. We'd laugh until we couldn't breathe. And her cheesecake ice cream? Still kicking myself for never getting that recipe.
But honestly, it was never about the dessert — it was about the comfort, the joy, the nostalgia.
To this day, Bobbee is one of the brightest lights from a childhood that didn’t have many.
She was love. She was comfort. She was home.
I still carry her with me — every single day. That’s why I named my only son for her. Because if I can give him even a fraction of what she gave me, I’m doing something right.
This year, I’m doing something I never dared dream I could do: I’m running my first-ever marathon — the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon — with Team Sharsheret, in Bobbee’s memory… and for every woman like her.
Sharsheret is a national nonprofit that supports women and families facing breast and ovarian cancer, especially in the Jewish community.
They provide peer support, education, and real-life resources — helping people feel less alone during the hardest, most vulnerable moments of their lives.
When Bobbee was sick, she didn’t have anything like this.
No support network. No real guidance.
Not even clear, accessible information.
She didn’t get the help she deserved.
But other families can. And they should.
That’s why I’m running.
For her.
For them.
And for the thousands of people who deserve a safety net of love, clarity, and strength while they fight.
Not gonna lie — training hasn’t been a piece of cake.
Running in 80-degree weather? Definitely not my favorite.
But truth is… I’m enjoying it.
The sweat, the mental grind, the early mornings I still haven’t mastered — it’s all part of the process.
And I welcome the challenge. Because this is how I honor her.
I’m raising $5,000 for Team Sharsheret. Every dollar goes toward helping women and families like mine — and like Bobbee’s — face cancer with more support, more answers, and more strength.
If you knew her…
If you love someone who’s battled cancer…
If you just believe in doing real good with real impact…
👉 Help me run this race with purpose — and please consider donating toward my $5,000 goal so that others don’t have to face cancer alone.
