Life is full of surprises.

Some are the kind you dream about. Others are the kind you never see coming.

A little over seven years ago, just one month after I turned 40, I received news that completely changed my life — I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was shocking, overwhelming, and something I never imagined would be part of my story. Suddenly I was navigating appointments, decisions, fear, and uncertainty, all while trying to stay strong for my family.

During that time, Sharsheret became an incredible source of strength and support for me. Sharsheret is a national nonprofit organization that supports Jewish women and families facing breast and ovarian cancer. They provided guidance, emotional support, resources, and most importantly, connection — connecting me with people who truly understood what I was going through. They helped me feel less alone during one of the hardest times in my life.

Today, I’m grateful to say that I am seven years cancer-free.

Running has always been something that grounds me, challenges me, and reminds me how strong our bodies can be. This year, I’ll be running my ninth marathon — the NYC Marathon — in support of Sharsheret, to help ensure that other women facing cancer receive the same support that meant so much to me.

And life had another beautiful surprise in store.

After last year’s marathon, I got engaged — a joyful reminder that life continues to unfold in the most unexpected ways. From a cancer diagnosis shortly after turning 40 to finding love and getting engaged years later, my journey has been filled with moments I never could have predicted.

Running this marathon is about celebrating life, resilience, and the power of community.
