Dear Friends and Family ,
I am excited to share with you that I am an official member of Team Sharsheret for the 2022 TCS NYC Marathon.
I have already begun to train for my race, and am inspired to undertake this rigorous challenge as I am doing it in support of Sharsheret, a national not-for-profit organization supporting women and families at high risk, and those facing breast and ovarian cancer at every stage-before, during, and after diagnosis.
It is particularly meaningful for me to race on behalf of Sharsheret. When I ran the 2022 NYC Half Marathon, I noticed the Team Sharsheret runners because of their pink shirts. When I checked my phone immediately after the race, I learned that my cousin had been rushed to the hospital in a last attempt to save her life. She passed away later that afternoon at age 35 after a 3 year fight with breast cancer. I was and am devastated. This was too close. She tried so hard to keep us from understanding the pain she was in that I didn't realize that she could possibly lose, that we would lose her.
Trying to process this all that day, especially after feeling so great just a few hours earlier because of a successful run, I emailed Team Sharsheret to ask about raising money for them by running in the NYC Marathon. I needed to DO something. How could I do more? How can I make a difference? I don't know if my cousin specifically worked with Sharsheret, but I know that for many breast cancer warriors, Sharsheret is the answer.
How can I make a difference? By taking on this personal challenge and joining with the other members of Team Sharsheret, I think I have found my answer.
I am doing this in memory and for an aliyas neshoma of two incredible women who I miss having in my life. My grandmother, Feiga bas Ezriel Mordechai, and my cousin, Ettel bas Ezriel Mordechai. One woman who won and one who lost.
As a member of this incredible Team, I have pledged to raise a minimum of $3,600 in support of Sharsheret's breast cancer and ovarian cancer programs and services. I am asking you to please support me in my athletic and fundraising efforts as I take on this challenge. All contributions are tax-deductible and corporate matching may be an option for you.
Thank you all so much, in advance, for your support!
