In 2019, we found out my mom had breast cancer. She completed her treatments just before her 60th birthday.
As my mom underwent her treatments, she reached out to Sharsheret, a Jewish organization that serves women with breast and ovarian cancer. She heard about Sharsheret because it is the national philanthropy of AEPhi. Sharsheret connected my mom with a social worker and another Jewish woman who had been through a similar treatment and diagnosis. They provided her with a safe place to talk and ask questions and sent her a box with lotions, a cookbook, a binder and other things to help her feel better and be in control of her health.
This year, I am running my 11th marathon and third Chicago marathon to raise money for Sharsheret in honor of my mom, who is healthy and four years cancer-free!
