Hi! We are two cousins who are very excited to be running in the Jerusalem marathon this year on behalf of Sharsheret and in memory of Rochelle Shoretz A’H. Sharsheret is a national not-for-profit organization that is close to our hearts. When our close family member, Rochelle, was diagnosed with breast cancer as a young mother at the age of 28, she wanted to connect with other Jewish, young moms going through a similar hardship. She yearned for a community and outlet, a place of support and warmth, and so she created it for herself and thousands of other women in Sharsheret, which means “link” in Hebrew. Sharsheret is an amazing organization dedicated to providing women and their families who are battling breast and ovarian cancer with the support that they need, from educational medical resources to more practical help such as how to manage the devastating side effects of chemotherapy and talking with young children about the disease.

היי! אנחנו שתי בנות דודות שמתרגשות מאוד לרוץ השנה במרתון ירושלים מטעם שרשרת, ולזכרה של רחל שורץ ע"ה. שרשרת היא עמותה ארצית ללא מטרות רווח הקרובה ללבנו. כאשר בת משפחתנו הקרובה, רחל, אובחנה כחולה בסרטן השד כאם צעירה בגיל 28, היא רצתה להתחבר לאמהות אחרות, יהודיות וצעירות כמוהה, שעוברות קושי דומה. היא חיפשה קהילה, מקום של תמיכה וחום, וכך יצרה מקום כזה לעצמה ולעוד אלפי נשים החולות בסרטן השד.
שרשרת הוא ארגון מדהים, המוקדש לספק לנשים הנאבקות בסרטן השד והשחלות ובני משפחותיהן את התמיכה שהן זקוקות לה, ממשאבים רפואיים וחינוכיים ועד לעזרה מעשית יותר, כמו צורות התמודדות עם תופעות הלוואי ההרסניות של כימותרפיה, ודיבור עם ילדים קטנים על המחלה.
