Dear Friends and Family,
While most who know me know I have been a runner my whole life, running a full marathon was not something I ever imagined I could do. But when given the opportunity to run the NYC Marathon for Sharsheret, I decided to take on the challenge.
Working in the pharmaceutical industry, I see firsthand how critical genetic testing is for those at risk of cancer, especially for Ashkenazi Jews. One in forty Ashkenazi Jews—men and women—carry a BRCA gene mutation, nearly ten times the rate of the general population, making Jewish families significantly more susceptible to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer.
With the conflict in Israel weighing heavily on our hearts, the Jewish community is hurting deeply—grappling with loss, fear, and uncertainty. Yet, even amidst collective grief, it remains essential that we continue to safeguard our physical and mental well-being. For those facing a cancer diagnosis or living with a high risk of cancer, Sharsheret stands as a vital lifeline: offering one-on-one support, a compassionate peer network, and invaluable resources to help navigate treatment side effects and the financial burden that so often accompanies cancer.
In running this marathon, I am not just challenging myself physically—I am honoring the strength of those who fight their own battles every day. I run for the mothers, daughters, fathers, sons, and families whose lives are forever changed by cancer. I run to ensure that no one in our community has to face this journey alone.
Thank you for standing with me, and with Sharsheret, as we work to bring hope, support, and healing to those who need it most.
