My name is Noah Altman, in 2017, seemingly out of no where my healthy mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. To say this came as a shock to my family and I is an understatement. For most people a diagnosis like this would be relatively crippling both mentally and physically, however I did not see my mother falter a single centimeter when she found out. A true testament to her inner strength.
After my mother received her diagnosis, her journey to become healthy once again began and would last many months. Thank God she is now fully recovered and healthy!
Now how does this relate to my running and why should you care? When I saw my mother, who had been an active and healthy person her whole life get diagnosed with cancer I was truly shaken to my core. I began to recognize the uncertainty of life and how much we take for granted and how it can be stripped in an instant. I learned from her to have unwavering courage and to never take for granted the time we have. When my mother had fully recovered I made a mental decision that I would never make excuses when it came to doing the things that mattered and that I would always try my hardest to rise to the occasion. This manifested in several ways including various charitable endeavors. This marathon will be by far the biggest and most important of all of my physical pursuits simply because I know that I will have the tremendous honor of raising money for an organization which helps so many women and family's going through the same situation my mother and my family went through.
With all that being said, I hope that you can recognize both the seriousness and the importance of each and every donation you make towards my fund. Your money will go directly towards helping women affected by breast and ovarian cancer and helping them fight a battle far more difficult than any amount of running I will do. I hope through my words you can recognize how much this means to me and I look forward to the long but rewarding path before me.
